Well friends, we made it through this first week of radiation. We cannot thank you enough for all of the prayers for Amos. They were felt and heard! All things considered, Amos had an excellent week. One of the radiation nurses put it this way saying, “most kids take baby steps but he is taking size twelve foot-steps!” It sure made Mommy and Daddy happy to hear that.
Amos had a slower day today but we know that “off days” are to be expected, especially considering how tired he must be. Overall, Amos did SO well and worked SO hard this week! Our days go by quickly with radiation taking up most of the morning and then 3 or 4 therapy sessions mixed in with naps, vitals, weight checks, meds, and feeds. Bedtime sure does sneak up on us these days!
We continue to be thankful for smiles, high fives, thumbs up, and Amos’ generally sweet and patient disposition, given the situation. Even little things like going potty during the day can be a big challenge for him, but we are so impressed by his diligence and strength. He is enjoying listening to stories, music, and playing with his exercise buddies (therapists). We are really grateful to have a break this weekend from radiation. It’s a lot for Amos to handle and I think these weekends will be so important and helpful as he rests.
Please pray…
-That Amos would rest well this weekend
-The the radiation would be effective and have no lasting negative side effects. For there to be no more cancer
-That Amos would see the end of posterior fossa syndrome soon
-That his vocal chords, and cough and gag reflexes would return to perfect working order soon
-That Amos would continue to make great strides in therapy
-For patience, endurance, and faith as we all continue on this road
I’ll leave you with a song that has been such an encouragement to me lately. Maybe it’s special because this was on one of the playlists that Amos and I listened to all the time, or maybe it’s just the words of comfort that are so applicable right now. It fits with this whole experience being aptly described as a storm. Oh and as Amos would point out, there are drums.
In my wrestling and in my doubts
In my failures You won’t walk out
You’re great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea
You are the peace in my troubled sea
In the silence You won’t let go
In the questions Your truth will hold
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea
You are the peace in my troubled sea
My lighthouse
My lighthouse
Shining in the darkness I will follow You
My lighthouse
My lighthouse
I will trust the promise
You will carry me safe to shore
Safe to shore
I won’t fear what tomorrow brings
With each morning I’ll rise and sing
My God’s love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea
You are the peace in my troubled sea
Fire before us You’re the brightest
You will lead us through the storms
