Dear Friends,
Many of you have asked how we are doing and we want you to know that we really appreciate your care for us. To answer the question — we are doing okay. Well, even! The Lord has been so kind to grant us some much-needed days of rest, recovery for Amos, and normalcy for us as a family.
In the aftermath of the past few weeks, we’ve had moments of feeling exhausted, overwhelmed with sorrow and disappointment, elated with joy, amazed at God’s goodness, comforted by the God of all comfort, and very grateful for the love and support we’ve had from our church, school, family, and neighbors. We do not take for granted the fact that we are being so well looked after and helped in all manner of practical ways as we bear this new burden for Amos and our family. We know God designed us to live in community, to need one another, to depend on Him and his people in our weaknesses, but we see and know that in new and more personal ways through this experience. We are very grateful for you!
Thank you for the text messages, phone calls, cards in the mail, MEALS (such a gift to me, Kelli!!), care packages, gifts, etc. All these things are truly a kindness that allows Amos’s days and ours to be interrupted by the reminder that God’s people love us and are caring for us near and far. It’s a comfort to see how God has brought just the right encouragement when we needed it most, whether that was a phone call we were reluctant to answer, or another blanket we didn’t know we needed. We are thankful.
So how are we doing? Well, this past week has been eerily, almost shockingly, normal. Amos has been recovering much like his surgery outcome: miles ahead of where we thought he would be! He was back to school most of last week and enjoyed youth group, watching his brothers’ baseball games, a concert, and a field trip this past week. We are amazed that his pain is so minimal and that he seems to be picking up right where he left off! We cannot describe the gift of having him home, humming (literally) around the house, and continuing with his school and other activities.
Will and I have been trying to catch up on some sleep as we’ve both felt the “crash” of our adrenaline highs wearing off. Returning to certain aspects of work and family life has been a gift that I don’t think either of us expected, certainly not this soon. We are still working out what’s next in terms of radiation. The inevitable snags of administration and records at multiple hospitals have held us up a bit in getting those answers, but we are on the right track. Hopefully by the end of this week we will have more to share on that front.
For now, we are resting, at home, and knowing that whatever radiation looks like, the Lord is near and He will continue to sustain us.
Thank you for your continuing prayers!
“”But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.” Psalm 5:11

thank you for this update. I smiled when I read the part that Amos is humming around the house. We love you with all of our hearts,

Dear Will and Kelli,
Thank you so much for this update since I too was wondering how you were doing. I am do glad to learn that Amos is doing so well and that life is much more normal than you expected it to be. Praise God! I can also appreciate that you would crash and need to rest as much as possible. No need to put undue pressure on yourselves. I am glad that so many have close by have been able provide meals and other practical help. We certainly do need the community around us and the Lord uses the community to provide for us. I am glad you are being supported.
I will continue to pray for Amos and recovery and healing. Thanks again for the update. Take good care.
Many blessings, Rebecca
