Hello Friends and Family,
This is a slightly late post just to say- please pray for Amos today! He has a long day of appointments at Duke Children’s Hospital. His day began before 6am so that he and Will could drive to Durham in time for appointments to start bright and early. Yesterday morning we had two appointments scheduled for today but by the end of the day yesterday we had filled the day with all kinds of appointments to help us move things along more quickly towards radiation. Special thanks to our team at Duke who were willing to make this happen!
But even as we are grateful for the chance to knock out so many appointments in one day, it’s a long hard day for Amos (and Will). Most importantly, Amos will be meeting with the radiation team to hear their full plan for treatment and then to have all the CT mapping and special mask made for radiation treatment. Following this he will then have an LP (lumbar puncture) procedure done to check that his spinal fluid is free from cancer cells. This is a standard of care procedure and while they don’t expect there to be any findings of note, please pray for that to be the case. This procedure does require general anesthesia as well so Amos will not be able to eat anything until after the procedure which is scheduled for 3pm today. As any parent of a nearly 13 year old boy knows, not eating all day is a very trying ordeal!!
Please pray for Amos to be patient and to endure with grace all the pokes and prods of the day. Please pray for everything to go extremely well and that all the doctors, nurses, technicians, etc. would be skillful and accurate in all their dealings with Amos.
We also wanted to mention that Amos’s beloved Neuro-oncology Nurse Navigator of six years, Julianne, is retiring at the end of this month. She has been our point of contact at Duke and a constant help when we needed things for Amos. She’s been a gifted advocate for Amos and our family as we’ve needed appointments scheduled or other questions answered. She has worked behind the scenes to make Amos’s care easier on him and us and we are so very grateful. We will miss her and wish her the very best in this next season! Will and Amos will be meeting her replacement today so please pray for a good hand-off as we make this transition.

We’ll post again soon with more updates! Thank you for your prayers.

After reading your email just now, I was praying for all these heavy “loads” Amos is enduring. The end verse from Matthew 11:30 popped into my head “My burden is light.” May our Lord carry this burden for all of you through today and the days ahead. Especially as Amos goes without food! Perhaps there is other nourishment as Jesus said in John 4:32, ” I have food to eat that you do not know about.” Did you know that the radio/podcast of Dr. J. Vernon McGhee of “Thru the Bible” ministry began the Book of Amos on yesterday’s broadcast? I used to listen to him on Moody Radio when he was alive, and I lived in Atlanta. With the assistance of the internet and podcasts, he is still teaching–and now being translated into many languages around the world. Reports come in from people coming to faith from hearing his teaching in the restricted areas around the world. Day before yesterday I saw the first 2025 hummingbird. Later there was a second. Having seen them both at the same time, it looks like a male and a female. Apparently, the male comes first, then the female and they begin building a nest. Our holly trees are too thick to see into and there aren’t enough leaves yet on our trees to hide them, so maybe they’re just fattening up after their long trip from Mexico or wherever warmer place they were. Praying now for the remainder of your day there. It was such a blessing to join the session of our church in the special prayer for healing. May God continue to answer our prayers! Love in Christ,
