Monday in California – Great Restults

Dear friends and family,

It has been a long day, so I will not write at great length. As you likely know, today was a big day. When I woke up this morning (at 4AM due to jet lag) I immediately felt the weight of how many possible outcomes existed for the day. With Amos’s lung infection from last week, we were not even sure he would be cleared for the MRI today, let alone that massive question of how the MRI itself would pan out. 

We arrived at CHOC this morning to a much-loved face: Jody, our nurse practitioner from 5th Floor (Oncology) who agreed to do Amos’s physical prior to the MRI. Jody has been involved in Amos’s care for about as long as anyone, so she made the perfect person to evaluate Amos and make a decision. After listening to his lungs and hearing about how he’s been doing over the last few days, she gave us the green light for the MRI. This was a huge blessing. I’m not sure that I was “shocked,” since I knew Amos had definitely improved, but I was definitely amazed that he recovered enough to make the MRI feasible. Just last Tuesday Amos was a long way from being able to be safely sedated! So that was an amazing answer to prayer in and of itself.

Amos then had his routine head and spine MRI, which is about an hour and a half. His sedation and the procedure went very smoothly, and I was very quickly back with him in recovery. About two hours after that, Amos and I went to see Dr. Loudon, who performed Amos’s originals brain surgeries back in June 2015, and who has been with us ever since in many ways, to review the results of the scan. 

The short story is that the scan looked excellent. The two white “spots” seen in previous scans seem less and less of a concern, as one appears to have completely disappeared, the other having remained the same, or even shrunk. So that is very good. Everything else looks stable and clear.

What an answer to prayer! Thank you for prayers for Amos and me. It has been a very challenging trip for obvious reasons, but it is impossible to look at today and fail to see God’s faithfulness. 
Tomorrow we will see Amos’s ophthalmologists, say goodbye to Gigi and Grandpa, and board the plane back to Cambridge. The next scan will be some time in February. 

Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. (Mk. 11:24)

  2. What an update to receive in my inbox this morning! Praising God with you for his mercy, such amazing news after all the uncertainty leading up to the scan. Psalm 121:1-2 – the God who made heaven and earth is higher than the hills, no matter how steep they seem.

  9. What great news😍😍. We all know that prayer works and it is very heart warming to read another post that you once again are seeing the results of that. Have a safe trip home and we will be waiting in January for the news of the next precious little one.
